AyearagoourChinateamdeconstructedChina’ssupplychainamidstunprecedentedchangestotheoutlook,

tobuildapictureofresilience,opportunityandvulnerability.Ayearonandayearworse,wesampleseven

signiicantglobalmanufacturingindustriesrepresenting22%ofChinasGDPgrowth.Inivesectors,these

industrieshavebuiltmorecapacitythantheentireglobaldemandpool—imbalancesthathaveleftmorethan

50%ofcapacityrunningatzeroornegativecashmargins.AsChinastransitioncontinues,weaskhowcyclical

aretheseimbalances,howmuchfurthercantheygoandhowmightwegaugeinflectionpointsahead.

WeconcludethatChinesemanufacturersarerespondingtopoorproitabilityanduncertaintiesaround

limitationstomarketaccesstotheUSandEU,pre-emptivelyadjustingthepaceoffutureadditionsofcapacity,

incontrasttoconsensusnarratives.Weexpectarebalancinginsupplyversusdemand,arestorationinproit,

andsharpdecelerationofChinesesupplytotheworldthrough2028.
