    Thegovernmentisexpectedtointroducea£75,000capon

    thecostofsocialcare,fundedbyfreezinginheritancetax,

    asitmovestoendthetheinwhichpeopleareforced

    toselltheirhomes,JeremyHunthassaid.

    Ministersaredeterminedtoprotectpeoplesinheritance,

    thehealthsecretarysaid,asherejectedsuggestionsthat

    theTorieswereabandoningGeorgeOsbornespre-election

    pledgetoraisetheinheritancetaxthresholdto£1m.

    HuntwasspeakingontheAndrewMarrShowonBBC1before

    hisstatementtoparliamentonMonday,inwhichhewill

    outlinethegovernmentsresponsetotheDilnotreporton

    fundingsocialcare.

    Herecommendedacapontheamountindividualsareexpected

    topayforcarewhentheybecomeelderlyandinfirmbefore

    thestatestepsinofbetween£25,000–£50,000,tobe

    settledat£35,000.

    Huntallbutconfirmedthecapwouldbesetat£75,000

    afterOsbornewarnedministerstheDilnotproposalwould

    costatleast£2bn.

    Thehealthsecretaryalsocameclosetoconfirmingreports

    thatthe£1bncostofthenewcapwouldbefundedby

    freezinginheritancetax(IHT)atthecurrentrateof

    £325,000until2019.IfIHT,frozensince2009,increased

    inlinewithinflationeveryyearuntil2019itwouldreach

    £420,000.

    Huntsaid:said:haveascandalatthemomentthateveryyear

    30,000to40,000peoplearehavingtoselltheirhouses
