ofthecountry,theauthoritieshaveworkedoutwaystopreventlarge-scaleoutbreaks.

Chinasfightagainstthepandemichasnotcomewithoutacost.Thecountryseconomycontractedby

6.8percentinthefirstquarterof2020duetolockdownsandotherstrictmeasurestocheckthespreadafter

theviruswasfirstdetectedinWuhan,withthecityanditsparentalprovinceofHubeibeingthemost

affected.Butwiththegovernmenttakingrigorousmeasuresintheinitialstages,bothWuhanandHubei

startedretuningtonormalafteracoupleofmonths.Andwithproductionandothereconomicactivities

resumingthroughoutthecountryinsecondhalfoflastyear,China,againstallodds,achieved2.3percent

growthfortheyear2020.

Comparedwiththeperformanceoftherestoftheworld,China,despitefacingadevastatingpandemic,

hascontainedthevirusaswellassafeguardedthelivesandlivelihoodsofthepeoplethankstothe

governmentscompetenceandefficiency.

Manyexpertsthoughttheindustrializedeconomieswerebetterequippedtocontainthepandemic,because

oftheiradvancedhealthcaresystemsandmedicalresources.Tothesurpriseoftheworld,thatwasnotthe

case.AlmostallmajorWesterncountriesarestillstrugglingtocontainthep
