Introduction
TheMinistryofEducationhasreleasedthe2023University
EnglishTeachingGuidelines,aimedatimprovingtheEnglish
languageproficiencyofstudentsinhighereducationinstitutions
acrossthecountry.Theseguidelinesaredesignedtoprovidea
comprehensiveframeworkforuniversitiestoenhancetheir
Englishlanguageteachingmethodsandpractices.
KeyObjectives
Thekeyobjectivesofthe2023UniversityEnglishTeaching
Guidelinesare:
1.ToenhanceEnglishlanguageproficiencyamongstudents.
2.Topromotestudent-centeredandinteractiveEnglish
languageclasses.
3.ToencouragetheuseoftechnologyinEnglishlanguage
teaching.
4.Todevelopstudentscriticalthinkingandcommunication
skillsinEnglish.
5.ToalignEnglishlanguageteachingwithinternational
standards.
KeyComponents
Theguidelinesincludethefollowingkeycomponents:
1.CurriculumDevelopment:Universitiesareencouragedto
designEnglishlanguagecurriculathatarecomprehensiveand
alignedwiththeCommonEuropeanFrameworkofReferencefor
Languages(CEFR).Thecurriculumshouldfocusonallfour
languageskills(reading,writing,listening,andspeaking)and
provideopportunitiesforstudentstopracticetheseskillsin
real-lifecontexts.
2.TeachingMethodology:Theguidelinesemphasizethe
importanceofstudent-centeredandinteractiveteaching
methods.Teachersareencouragedtouseavarietyoftechniques,
suchasgroupwork,pairwork,roleplays,anddiscussions,to
engagestudentsandenhancetheirlearningexperience.
3.Assessment:Universitiesareadvisedtouseavarietyof
assessmentmethodstoevaluatestudentsEnglishlanguage
proficiency.Thesemayincludeexams,quizzes,presentations,
projects,andportfolios.Assessments
