reachedtheSuperiorNationalForestbyearlyevening.Onthewaytoourcampsite,Allenpointedtoa
smallhousefarawayinoneofthemountains,sayingthatitwastherangerstation（护林站）wherethe
forestersworked.
Allenknewallthetricksofanexperiencedcamper.Afterwegatheredenoughwoodfromtheforest
floor,hestartedthecampfireusingonlystoneandsteel—nomatches.Afteradayoftravelling,we
