Day1-2Followedbyengagingicebreakeractivitiesandteam-buildingexercises,

participantswillattendthespeechesdeliveredbytheworld-knownarchaeologists.Dr.Robert

AustinandDr.JohnArthurwillrespectivelygivespeechesaboutthesiteandlocalhistoryof

theTampaBayarea.Thedayswillconcludewithbasictrainingonexcavationtechniquesand

tools,settingthegroundworkforhands-oninvolvementinthearchaeologicalexploration

ahead.

Day3-4Participantswillexplorelocalhistoricsiteslong-coveredbyplantsandlearn

howarchaeologistssurveysitesusingdirectmeasurements,digitalcameras,carefulnotes,

andhand-heldGPSunits.Thistripwillalsoprovideanopportunitytolearnmoreaboutthe

environmentinwhichthesesiteswerecreated.

Day5-7ParticipantswillbeinvolvedinassistingAWIAREresearchersinexcavation,

recordingdata,screeningsediment,andcollectingartifacts,bone,andsamples.What’smore,

Youwillalsohelpsortingandprocessingartifactsfromtheexcavationandothersitesinthe

TampaBayarea.
