    Whenfailureofonesideofacontrolconnectionoccurs,anew

    byexchanginginformationabouttheoldconnection.Suchamechanism

    isnotintendedasareplacementforanactivefailoverwithsome

    mirroredconnectionstates,butasanaidforthoseparametersthat

    areparticularlydifficulttohaveimmediatelyavailable.Protocol

    extensionstoL2TPdefinedinthisdocumentareintendedto

    facilitatestaterecovery,providingadditionalresiliencyinanL2TP

    network,andimprovingaremotesystem’slayer2connectivity.
