    •FamiliaritywithIcepakinterface,andhavingagoodunderstandingofbasicproblemsetupandsolution

    procedure.

    AnIcepak3Dfanobjectmaysometimesbehavedifferentlyfromrealfanbehavior.Typicallythisisdue

    toflowfeatureslikeswirlandcentrifugalspreadresultantfromthespinningfanrotoraswellasthe

    rotorbladegeometry.InanIcepakfanbasedsetup,thisswirlisestimatedandcalculatedoffa2Dan-

    nularflowfaceratherthanoffthephysicalsurfacesoftheblade.

    TheMRFapproachallowsforamoreaccuraterepresentationoftheinternalgeometryofthefanand

    thereforeresultsinabettermodelingoftheflowfeatures.InIcepakMRFsimulations,theactualblade

    geometryismodeledasaCADblockobjectandafluidcylinderrotatesintocontactwiththesurfaces

    tocreateaspinningflow.

    Inthistutorial,youwilluseapreviouslybuiltIcepakmodeloffanblades(Figure30.1:A3DIcepakFan

    ObjectAssembly(p.578)a)andcreatetherotatingMRFfluidblockstocreateflowinthemodel.You

    willlearntheproperproblemsetupandsolutionsettingsforanMRFmodel,aswellasagoodmeshing

    techniquetoinsuregoodresults.
