Anotherbigdangerishumanactivities.Warscancauseagreatdealofdamagetobothculturalandnaturalheritagesites.Sometimes,amazingancientclaysculpturesandbuildingsareaccidentally2destroyedbymissileattacksduringperiodsofviolence.Insomeconflictareaswherecivilwarsoftenbreakout,fightershaveevendestroyedheritagesitesonpurpose.
Meanwhile,WorldHeritagestatusmaygiverisetoaseriesofproblems.Oneoftheproblemsisthefloodoftourists.MillionsoftouriststraveltoUNESCOWorldHeritageSiteseveryyear,soitisonlynaturalthatthesitessufferabitofwearandtear3.ThetemplesofAngkorinCambodiaaretypicalexamplesofuniquearchitecture.Everyday,thousandsoftouristsclimbingupthenarrowstonestepsarewearingdowntheseancientbuildingsandthelong-termconsequencescouldleadtoirreparable4destructionoftheinternalstructure.
Heritageprotectionisatthetopoftheagendaforthebenefitofallmankind.Themoreweacknowledgetheoutstandinguniversalvalueofourheritagesites,themorelikelywearetotreatthemwithrespect.Thesesitesarethegreatwondersofourworldandtellthestoryofhumancivilization.Weallshareajoint5responsibilitytoprotectandpreservethem,notjustforourselves,butforfuturegenerations.(选自译林版选择性必修第三册Unit4)
