Abstract

TheEnglishCurriculumStandardforSeniorHighSchool(2017edition,revisedin

2020)clearlystatesthatthespecificgoalofEnglishcoursesistocultivateanddevelopthe

subjectcoreliteracythatstudentsshouldpossessafterreceivinghighschoolEnglish

education,suchaslanguageability,culturalawareness,thinkingqualityandlearning

ability.Asoneofthebasiclanguageskills,readingisanimportantwaytodevelopthinking

quality.InthecurrenthighschoolEnglishreadingteaching,someteachersfocuson

vocabulary,sentencepatternsandgrammarknowledge,andtoacertainextentneglectthe

cultivationofbackgroundknowledgeofreadingmaterials,genrestructureandreading

strategies.Schematheorybelievesthatreadingisaprocessofinteractionbetweenthe

thoughtsinpeople’smindsandtheinformationprovidedbyreadingmaterials,whichis

basedonthereader’srichbackgroundknowledge,certainlanguageabilitiesandeffective

readingskills.Theschematheoryincludeslinguisticschema,contentschemaandformal

schema.Applyingtheschematoreadingteachingcanhelpstudentsactivatetheexisting

schema,enrichthebackgroundknowledge,graspthearticlestructure,andachieveanall-

roundunderstandingofthearticletoimprovestudents’readinginterest,readingstrategies

andscoresinreading.

Thisstudyadoptstheactionresearchparadigm,andappliesschematheorytohigh

schoolEnglishreadingteaching,inordertoimprovestudents’readinginterestandreading

strategiesaswellasscoresinreading.Thefollowingthreequestionsarediscussed:(1)
