ThisGenerativeArtificialIntelligence(GenAI)MaturityToolisintendedtoserveasastartingpointforschooldistrictstointelligentlyandthoughtfullyimplementAItechnologiesthatalignwithinstructionalandoperationalobjectives.ThistoolbuildsonTheAIReadinessChecklistasdescribedbelow.Wehopeyoufinditusefulandinformative.

TheCounciloftheGreatCitySchools(CGCS)andCoSN-ConsortiumforSchoolNetworkingworkedinpartnershipwithAmazonWebServices(AWS)todevelopaK-12GenerativeAI(GenAI)ReadinessChecklistQuestionnaire.ThequestionnairewasdesignedtoguideK-12school

districtsinunderstandingkeyfactorstoconsiderbeforeimplementingGenAItechnologies.Whilenotan

exhaustivereadinessassessment,thechecklistservedas

apreliminarytoolfordistrictleaders—including

superintendents,districtleaders,andtechnology

experts—toevaluatethesafety,privacy,security,and

ethicalimplicationsofusingGenAI.Thegoalistohelp

districtsprepareadequately,ensuredataprivacyand

security,andavoidbiasoralgorithmicdiscrimination

whilegainingafoundationalunderstandingoftherelatedtacticalconsiderations.
