ShiguAcademy,locatedinHengyang,Hunanprovince,isafamousacademyinChina.ItwasbuiltintheNorthernSongDynastyandhasahistoryofover900years.TheacademyisalsoknownastheShiguStoneDrumAcademybecauseofthefamousstonedrumthatiskeptthere.

Theacademycoversanareaofabout20,000squaremetersandisdividedintothreeparts:thefronthall,themiddlehall,andtherearhall.Thefronthalliswherethemaingateislocated,anditisalsotheplacewherethestudentsusedtogatherandstudy.Themiddlehalliswheretheclassroomsandthelibraryarelocated.Therearhalliswheretheteachersusedtoliveandteach.

TheShiguStoneDrum,whichiskeptintheacademy,isafamousculturalrelicinChina.ItisastonedrumthatwasmadeintheHanDynasty.Thedrumisabout1.5metersindiameterand0.5metersinheight.Ithasatotalof1,253characterscarvedonit,whichrecordtheeventsofthefirst12yearsofthereignofEmperorWuoftheHanDynasty.

Theacademyhasproducedmanyfamousscholarsandofficialsthroughouthistory.ThemostfamousoneisZhuXi,afamousphilosopherandeducatorintheSongDynasty.Hewasastudentoftheacademyandlaterbecameateacherthere.HemadegreatcontributionstothedevelopmentofConfucianismandeducationinChina.

Nowadays,theShiguAcademyhasbecomeapopulartouristattractioninHengyang.Manypeoplecomeheretolearnaboutthehistoryandcultureoftheacademy,aswellastoappreciatethebeautyoftheancientarchitectureandthestonedrum.Theacademyhasalsobecomeaplaceforacademicexchangeandculturalactivities,promotingthetraditionalcultureofChinatotheworld.
