HistoryNingxiaisoneofthebirthplacesofancientChineseHistoryNingxiaisoneofthebirthplacesofancientChinese

place.Inthe3rdcenturyBC,QintheFirstEmperorestablished
BeidiShirehereafterheunifiedChina,withsettlementsofhis
troopsintroducingirrigationandpioneeringahistoryof
divertingtheYellowRiver.In1038AD,theTangutleaderLi
YuanhaobuilttheStateofXiawiththepresentNingxiaregionas
itscenter,laterknownastheWesternXiawithitscapitalXingqing
Prefecture(nowYinchuanCity),formingatripodsituationwith
theSong,Liao,Jinregimeslasting189years.AftertheYuan
overthrewWesternXia,itwasrenamedNingxiaPrefecture,hence
thename.NingxiaProvincewasfoundedin1929.Afterthe
foundingofnewChina,Ningxiaprovincewasbroughtunderthe
jurisdictionofGansuin1954,butonOctober25,1958Ningxia
HuiAutonomousRegionwasestablished.
