Planstobringwildtigersbacktotheiroriginalhome,theirhistoricalrange(历史分布范围)inthe
IliBalkhashregion,havebeenannouncedbyKazakhstan(哈萨克斯坦)andanagreementwithWorld
WideFundforNature(WWF)toconductatigerreintroductionprogramhasbeensigned.Itwillnotonly
bringwildtigersbacktotheiroriginalhome,butalsoprotecttheuniqueecosystemoftheIliBalkhash
region，saidAskarMyrzakhmetov,theMinisterofAgricultureoftheRepublicofKazakhstan.
Ifsuccessful,Kazakhstanwillbethefirstcountryintheworldtobringwildtigersbacktoanentire
regionwheretheyhavediedoutfornearlyhalfacentury.Tigerreintroductionprojectshaveonlybeen
achievedwithinnationalbordersandinareasthatareconsideredcurrenttigerhabitats.Kazakhstans
tigerreintroductionprogramisuniqueanditbadlyrequirestherestorationofavastforestthatispartof
thewildtigershistoricalrange.
Sincethebeginningofthe20thcentury,wildtigershavelostover90percentoftheirhistorical
range.Wildtigershavecompletelydisappearedfromtheregionsincethelate1940s,duetothelossof
habitat.Toprepareforthereturnofwildtigers,on1stJanuary2018Kazakhstanwillsetupanewnature
reserveinthesouthwesternIliBalkhash,inordertorestoretheuniqueforesthabitat.Thiswillincludethe
protectionofexistingwildlife,andreintroducingimportantprey(猎物),suchastheendangeredwild
Bactriandeer(中亚红鹿).
RestoringtigerswillalsohelpprotectLakeBalkhashandpreventitfromrepeatingthefateofthe
AralSea,formerlytheworldsfourthlargestlakeandnow10percentofitsoriginalsize.Thehardwork
remainsaheadofus.Wehavetosparenoefforttomakethisregionreadyfortigersandinvolveallthe
relevantpeopletomakethishappen.
