LiteratureloversinChinawerehappybecausesomeoftheBritishLibrary’smosttypicalbookswereondisplayinBeijing,forthefirsttimeever.StartedinApril2017,10treasuredhandwrittenmanuscripts1andearlyeditionsfromsomeofBritain’sgreatestwriterswerelenttotheNationalLibraryofChinaaspartofaculturalexchange.;Treasures2oftheBritishLibrarywereCharlesDickens’manuscriptforNicholasNickleby,CharlotteBronte’smanuscriptforJaneEyre,andanearlyeditionofShakespeare’sRomeoandJuliet,whichwasonceownedbyKingGeorgeⅢ.JamieAndrews,headofcultureandlearningattheBritishLibrarysaid,“Thereissomethingspecialaboutseeinganobject3thatishundredsofyearsoldanditisalsoanoriginalobjectintheauthor’sownhandwriting.Thereisareallyspecialconnectiontotheoriginalmomentofcreativityandthat’saspecialexperience.”Andrews;saidmanybookswereconsideredfortheexhibition.“Whenwestartedtoreducethenumberofpossibilitiestojust10books,oneofthenamesimmediatelywasShakespeare.ShakespeareissoimportanttotheBritishLibrary,heisaworldfigureandShakespearehasresonance4inChinaaswell,sowefeltheshouldcertainlybethere.”AlsointheexhibitionwereclassicsthathadbecomepopularinChinathroughTVandfilmadaptations5,suchasSirArthurConanDoyle’sSherlockHolmestaleTheAdventureoftheMissingThree-Quarter,andIanFleming’sJamesBondstoryTheLivingDaylights.;Thegovernment-fundedexhibitioncost1.6millionpounds($2million)toholdandwaspartoftheculturalexchangeprogrammewithChinaandincludedaseriesofexhibitionsinShanghai,WuzheninZhejiangProvince,andHongKong.TheBeijingexhibitionstartedonApril21standcontinuedfortwomonths.;Andrewssaid,“Wewantpeopletoenjoyalltheseexperienc
