Setupinstructions

TheACH580andACQ580drivessupportastandardsoftwarefeaturecalledIntelligentpumpcontrol(IPC)thatallows

formultidrivesystemstooperatewithoutaprogrammablelogiccontroller(PLC)orbuildingautomationsystem.IPC

wasdevelopedaroundtheuseofatransducerprovidingafeedbacksignaltoallthedrivesinthesystem,andthenthe

drivesadjustingtheiroutputfrequencytomaintainasetpointbyusingthedrives’builtinPIDcontrolloop.InanIPC

system,usuallythesetpointisafixedvalueprogrammedintothedrives.Aminimumquantityoftwodriveandmotor

combinationsarerequiredforimplementationofIPC,withamaximumofeightdriveandmotorcombinations.Many

systemswillhaveatleastoneextradriveinstandbymodeasabackup.Ifadriveormotorweretofailthestandbydrive

willstartrunningautomaticallythroughtheIPCcontrollogic.Figure1showsatraditionalexampleofamultidrive

systemusingIPC.Thedrive-to-drivecommunicationlinkishowthedrivescommunicatewithoneanothertocontrol

speedandautomaticredundancy.

Insteadofatransducerfeedbacksignalbeingconnectedtomultipledrivestherearemanyapplicationsthatexistwhere

asimplespeedsignalisgiveninstead,butautomaticredundancyisnotprovidedbyaremotecontroller.Thespeed

signalmanytimesisa0–10VDCor4-20mAsignal,andprovidedbyabuildingautomationcontroller,PLC,ormaybe

evenasimplerotarypotentiometerknob.Thistechnicalnotewilldiscusshowtosetupamultidrivesystemtooperate

inaspeedfollowersetup,andstillprovideautomaticsystemredundancyandbalancedruntimes.TheIPCsoftware

featurewillbeusedasabasetoaccomplishthisfunctionality.Thistechnicalnotesupplementsthedrivefirmware

manualand
