Havingtherighttoolsforthejoballowsatechniciantoeffectivelyandefficientlyworkontheequipment.Thistechnical

notereviewsthesuggestedtoolsetforworkingonandsupportingABBACH580HVACRdrives.WhiletheACH580drive

isusedastheexample,manyoftheconceptsareapplicabletoanydrive.Thistechnicalnotewasrequestedby,its

contentcreationsupportedby,andapprovedbytheABBDriveSpecialistCouncil.Thiscouncilismadeupoffive

wrench-turningdrivespecialistsfromUSHVACRchannelpartners.Thevarioustoolswillbebrokendownintohand

toolsandsoftwaretools.ElectronicmeteringtoolsarecoveredinTechnicalNote180.Thisdocumentisnotintendedto

supersedeorreplacedetailswithinadrive’shardwareorIOMmanual.

Afullarsenalofhandtoolsisbeneficialwhenworkingonequipment.Screwdriversets(slotandPhillips),Torxdriverset,

pliers,wirestrippers,wrenches,socketsets,andAllenwrenchesaretoolsatechnicianmusthaveavailable.Butwhat

aboutwhenthetechnicianneedstopacklight?Whatifthetechnician’struckisparkeda15-minutewalkfromthe

equipment,withtheequipmentontheroofandonlyaccessibleviasmallroofhatch?Therearetimeswhenthebare

necessitiestravelwiththetechnician,andtherestgetsleftbehind.Thefollowinginformationisregardingthetypical

toolsusedonACH580drives.

Therearefourslottedscrewdriverscommonlyused,the3.5mm,4mm,4.5mm,and6mmsizes.Althoughwhen

workingonlargerdrives,therearesizesupto8mmusedongroundconnectionsforNorthAmericanpackageddrives.

ForPhilipsorPozi,thePH1,PH2,PZ1,andPZ2arethesizestohaveavailable.TheT10,T20,T25,andT30aretheTorxbits

used.Havingalongshaftorextensionavailableisalsobeneficialinsomesituations,especiallywiththeT20–T30sizes.
