IGEAispleasedtopresenttheFY2024AustralianGameDevelopmentSurveyIndustrySnapshot.Thisyear’sreportmarkstheninthyearthatIGEAhasundertakenthisimportantsurveytohighlightthetrends,size,scope,andhealthoftheAustraliangamedevelopmentindustry.

Thegamesindustryhasfacedmanychallengesgloballythisyear,andAustralianstudiosandcreatorshavenotbeenimmune.OurFY2024Snapshotrevealsstabilityinemployment,with2,465individualsworkinginthesector,andaslightdecreaseinrevenue,with$339milliongeneratedoverthepastyear.Importantly,themajorityofthisrevenue(93%)isgeneratedfromexports.Australiandeveloperscontinuetomakegamesthatarepopularwithaglobal

audience,andmanystudiosareattractinginvestmentfromaroundtheworld.

Stablerevenueandemploymentfiguresareadirectresultofthegeneroussupportmechanismsprovidedbythefederalgovernmentandthemanyfundingoptionsofferedbystatescreenandinvestmentagencies.ThisfundingensuresthecreationofAustralian-madegamescontent,with85%ofAustralianstudiosdevelopingtheirownIP.

While56%ofstudioshavebeenformedinthelast5years,25%ofstudiosareover10yearsold,highlightingasectorcomprisedofmatureandexperiencedcreators,aswellasanemergenceofnewstudios.

IGEA’sadvocacyforthegamedevelopmentsectorremainsfocusedoncontinuedandappropriategovernment

funding.Asweenter2025,thekeychallengesfacingAustraliangamedevelopersaresecuringpublishingdealsandtheavailabilityofearly-stagefundingforprojects.TheAustraliangamescommunityhasareputationforsupporting,connecting,andcelebratingeachother’sachievements,anditwillbecrucialthiscontinuesoverthenext12months.
