Thebatterymanagementsystem(BMS)installedineveryBCbatterycabinethasacomputer(R3000)thatcommunicates

thedatacollectedfromthebatteriestothecustomerviaalocalserver(BX-50).ThecommunicationbetweentheR3000

computerandtheBX-50localserverisbyanunshieldedCAT5orCAT6cable.

AlthoughoneBX-50canserveupto50BCcabinets,thephysicallayoutofthecabinetinstallationwilldeterminehow

manylocalserverswillbeneeded,becausethelongertheCAT5orCAT6cablebetweentheR3000computerandthe

BX-50serverthegreatertheelectricalnoiseinthecable.Agoodruleofthumbistolimitthemaximumdistancebetween

aBCcabinet(andhencetheR3000computer)fromtheBX-50serverto328feet(100meters).HavingCAT5orCAT6

cableslongerthan328ftcouldallowelectricalnoisetocompromisetheintegrityofthedatabeingcollected.

TheillustrationbelowshowsahypotheticalinstallationwithNcabinetssupportingoneUPS.Thedistancesbetweenthe

UPSandtheBX-50areshownasD1,D2,etc.AsingleBX-50servercansupporttheinstallationshownbelowaslongas

noneofthesedistancesexceeds328feetANDN(thetotalnumberofcabinetssupportingthesameUPS)islessthanor

equalto50.
