Thischaptercontainsinformationabouthot-socketingspecifications,power-onreset

(POR)requirements,andtheirimplementationinHardCopy®IVdevices.

HardCopyIVdevicesofferhotsocketing,whichisalsoknownashotplug-inorhot

swap,andpowersequencingsupportwithouttheuseofanyexternaldevices.You

caninsertorremoveaHardCopyIVdeviceoraboardinasystemduringsystem

operationwithoutcausingundesirableeffectstotherunningsystembusortheboard

thatwasinsertedintothesystem.

Thehot-socketingfeaturealsoremovessomeofthedifficultywhenyouuse

HardCopyIVdevicesorPCBsthatcontainamixtureof3.0-,2.5-,1.8-,1.5-,and1.2-V

devices.WiththeHardCopyIVhot-socketingfeature,younolongerneedtoensurea

properpower-upsequenceforeachdeviceontheboard.

TheHardCopyIVhot-socketingfeatureprovides:

■Boardordeviceinsertionandremovalwithoutexternalcomponentsorboard

manipulation

■Supportforanypower-upsequence

■Non-intrusiveI/Obufferstosystembusesduringhotinsertion
