Abstract
Therationaldevelopmentofurbanboundariesprovidesabundantlandandlaborresources
forurbandevelopment,playinganimportantroleintheindustrializationandmodernization
processofcities.DuringtheurbanizationprocessinChinaoverthepastfewdecades,the
expansionofurbanboundarieshasprovidedacontinuousdrivingforceforcities’development.
However,itshouldbenotedthatinthisprocess,therehasbeenaphenomenonwherethespeedof
landurbanizationexceedsthespeedofpopulationurbanization,andthedensityofurbanareas
continuestodecline,givingrisetothephenomenonof“urbansprawl”.Asacrucialengineof
moderneconomicdevelopment,theeconomicefficiencyofcitiesaffectsthequalityofregional
andevennationaleconomicdevelopment.Existingliteratureontherelationshipbetweenurban
sprawlandcityeconomicefficiencyisrelativelyscarce,andontheunderlyingmechanismsare
evenmorelacking.Therefore,thisthesisfocusesonthetheoreticalandempiricalanalysisofthe
directtransmissionmechanism,indirecttransmissionmechanism,andheterogeneitytransmission
mechanismofurbansprawloncityeconomicefficiency,providingsomepolicyreferencesfor
Chinatoexploreanewpathofurbanization,rationalexpansionofurbanboundaries,better
implementationofindustrialpolicies,andimprovementofeconomicdevelopmentquality.
