1.Introduction

abstract

Generallyseepageanalysisandstress–strainanalysisareconductedseparatelyintheanalysisofdamswithvariedwaterlevels,whichneglectstheimpactofsoildeformationonseepage.Theimpact,however,issigni?cantwhenthewaterlevelvariesgreatly.Inthisstudy,asimpli?edapproachforconsolidationanalysisofunsaturatedsoilisusedtoconductnumericalsimulationsofwater-?llinginanearth-rockdam.Porewaterpressureandphreaticlinearesimultaneouslyobtainedinadditiontostressanddisplacementwithinthedam.Thecomputationalresultsshowthatduetothecouplingeffectbetweendeformationandporewaterpressure,thedevelopmentofphreaticlinewithinthecore-wallofthedamisquickerthanthatcomputedfromunsaturatedseepageanalysiswithoutcouplingdeformation.Thevariationsofporewaterpressurearerelatednotonlytounsaturatedseepageinducedbyvariationsofwaterlevel,butalsototheexcessporewaterpressureinducedbydeformation.
