movements,whichincludedlicking(舔)theirnose,openingtheirmouth,orwideningthepupilsoftheir
eyes,”saidthescientists.Theyalsofoundcatsuse26ofthesefacialmovementsintotal,whichcanbe
mixedtoexpresshowtheyarefeeling.Dogsuse27facialmovementsandhumansuseatotalof44.
Outoftheexpressionstheyrecorded,45%werefriendlyand37%wereangry.“Afriendlycatmoves
itsearsandwhiskersforwardandclosesitseyes.However,anangrycatoftenflattensitsearstoitshead,
makesitspupilssmallerandlicksitslips,”saidtheteam.
Althoughtheresearchersaren’tsurewhatthecatsweretryingtocommunicatewitheachotherusing
theirfaces,theyplantostudycatsinotherplacestoimprovetheirunderstanding.Theyalsohopethatthe
