    ThetextsaretakenfromHelenKeller’sautobiographyTheTrueStoryof

    Mylife.

    HelenKeller(1880-1968)Americanauthorandlecturer,whobecame

    blindanddeafafteranillnesswhenshewasnineteenmonthsold.She

    beganhereducationatofsevenwhenMissA.M.Sullivancame

    tobeherteacher.

    UnderthecareofMissSullivan,Helenlearnedthedeaf-anddumb

    languagebytouchandlearnedtoreadbytheBraillesystemandtowrite

    usingaspecialtypewriter.In1890shealsolearnedtoread.Sheattended

    theCambridgeSchoolforyoungladies(1896-1900),whereMissSullivan

    wentwithhertoallclassesandrepeatedthelecturesanddiscussionsby

    touch.AccompaniedbyMissSullivan,HelenthenattendedRad-cliffe

    College(1900-1904)andgraduatedwithhonours.Aftergraduation,she

    carriedoutherdedicatedtasktoarousepublicinterestintheproblemsof

    thephysicallyhandicapped.Shemademanylecturetours,wroteseveral

    booksandmadeonemotionpicturebasedonherlife.AfterWorldWar

    II,shevisitedAmericanveteranshospitalsandmademanytoursin

    Europe,Asia,andAfrica,bringinghermessageofcourageandhopeto

    thehandicappedeverywhere.
