Controlsandfunction

1.AntennaConnector.ThisisastandardBNChighfrequencyconnector

mountedonthetopfaceofreceiver.

2.VOL(volume)control.Thisistheinnerknobofthe

concentriccontrolsonthetopfaceofthereceiver,andisusedto

setthedesiredlevelofaudiofromthereceiver.Initsfully

anti-clockwiseposition,itturnsoffthepowertothereceiver.

3.8QL(squelch)control.Theouterknoboftheconcentriccontrols,

thesquelchcontrolisprovidedtoeliminatethebackgroundnoiseon

unoccupiedfrequencies,andalsotoenablethereceivertodecide

whetherornottostoponafrequencywhensearchingorscanning.Turn

theSQLcontrolfromthefullyanti-clockwisepositionuntilthe

backgroundnoisejustdisappears.Thisisthemostsensitivesetting

fortheSQL.Itisusuallypreferabletoadvancethesquelchcontrol

littlewayfurtherclockwisethanthemostsensitivesettingtoavoid

inadvertentstoppingonnoiseorveryweaksignals.

4.ATT(attenuator)switch.Formostuses,theDXorlongdistance

settingisusedformostsensitiveconditionforthereceiver.

However,whenoperatingtheARlOOOinthepresenceofverystrong

signalssuchasthosefromTVstationsorFMbroadcasttransmitters,

someinterferenceeffectsmaybeapparent.Thiscantaketheformof

increaselevelsofbackgroundnoise,orspittingnoisesoccasionally

heardonpeaksofmodulationfromtheinterferingsource,orstrange

spurioussignalsgeneratedbyintermodulationbetweenthestrong

signals.ThecureofmostoftheseeffectsistheuseoftheATT

switchintheLOCALposition.
