Abstract.Inthispaper,weconsidertheproblemof

ndingthepositionofapointinspacegiven

itspositionintwoimagestakenwithcameraswithknowncalibrationandpose.Thisprocessrequires

theintersectionoftwoknownraysinspace,andiscommonlyknownastriangulation.Intheabsence

ofnoise,thisproblemistrivial.Whennoiseispresent,thetworayswillnotgenerallymeet,inwhich

caseitisnecessaryto

ndthebestpointofintersection.Thisproblemisespeciallycriticalina

andprojectivereconstructioninwhichthereisnomeaningfulmetricinformationabouttheobject

space.Itisdesirableto

ndatriangulationmethodthatisinvarianttoprojectivetransformationsof

space.Thispapersolvesthatproblembyassumingagaussiannoisemodelforperturbationofthe

imagecoordinates.Thetriangulationproblemthenmaybeformulatedasaleast-squaresminimization

problem.Inthispaperanon-iterativesolutionisgiventhat

ndsaglobalminimum.Itisshown

thatincertaincon

gurations,localminimaoccur,whichareavoidedbythenewmethod.Extensive

comparisonsofthenewmethodwithseveralothermethodsshowthatitconsistentlygivessuperior
