BCSPI’SCO-CHAIRS

IthasbeenapleasuretojointheBritishColumbiaSocialProcurement

Initiative(BCSPI)asitsnewCo-Chairs.Overthepastyear,wehaveseen

alotofgrowth.ComingoutoftheNovember2022localelections,there

hasbeenarenewaloftheBCSPISteeringCommitteewithnewfaces

andrepresentativesfrommorelocalgovernmentsacrossBC.Wehave

seengrowthinmembershipasmorelocalgovernmentsarejoinedby

BCcrowncorporationsandotherpublicpurchasers,suchaslibraries.

WehavealsoseenincreasedinterestinBCSPIseducationandtraining

opportunities,withover900peopletrainedthispastyear.The

outcomesareevidencethatsocialandsustainableprocurementis

nearingatippingpointatover$470Minsocialprocurementspending

todatebyBCSPImembers,representing1000+pilotprojects!Ifyouare

curiousastowhatthattranslatesinto,takealookatanyoneofBCSPIs

detailedcasestudiesthatoutlinethewhy,thewhat,thehowandthe

positivebenefitsforourlocalcommunities.

Asourcommunitiesincreasinglygrapplewithcomplexsocialand

environmentalchallenges,weneedeverytoolinourtoolboxtobe

workingforus.Procurementisahugeopportunity,andweareexcited

tobeleadersofalocalgovernment-ledinitiativethatismakingthis

opportunityaccessibleacrosstheprovince.
