2Buttheislandsmorerecenthistorytellsadifferentstory.Itsatragicstorythatbeganin1810whenhumansarrivedontheisland.Intheirshipstheyunknowinglybroughtratsandmice.Thesesmallanimalsquicklytookovertheisland,eatingthebirdseggsandattackingbabybirds.Catswerebroughttotheislandtocontroltheratsandmice.Unfortunately,thecatssubsequentlydevelopedanappetiteforthebirds,too.Ratsandmicebroughttotheislandcausedharm.
