    Thevolunteerswereabletoguesstherightname38%ofthetime.Itseemsthatcertaincharacteristicsoffacesgivethemcluesaboutsomeonesname,ReadersDigestreported.

    However,thisonlyworkedwhenthevolunteerslookedatnamesfromtheirownculture.Inaddition,thevolunteerswerenotasgoodatguessingtherealnamesofpeoplewhousednicknames(昵称)moreoftenthantheirrealnames.Thismayshowthatapersonsappearanceisaffectedbytheirnameonlyiftheyuseitoften.

    “Thiskindofface-namematchinghappensbecauseofaprocessofself-fulfillingprophecy(预言),aswebecomewhatotherpeopleexpectustobecome，”RuthMayofromtheuniversitytoldsciencenewswebsiteEurekAlert.

    Earlierstudieshaveshownthatgender(性别)andracestereotypes(刻板印象)canaffectapersonsappearance.Theresearchersbelievetherearealsosimilarstereotypesaboutnames.Forexample,peopletendtothinkthatmennamedBobshouldhaverounderfacesbecausetheworditselflooksround.PeoplemaythinkthatwomennamedRosearebeautiful.Theyexpectthemtobe“delicate”and“female”，justliketheflowertheyarenamedfor.
