ABSTRACT

ThereportdiscussesthetranslationofSpecialistMedicalTransportLtd.v.Care

QualityCommission.Withtheguidanceoftheappraisaltheory,thereportanalyzesthe

appraisalresourcesthatexpressviewpoints,attitudes,andimagesinthesourcetext

(ST),andfurtherexploresthetranslationstrategiesandmethodsofsuchexpressionsin

legaltextsonthebasisofcommunicativetranslationtheoryproposedbyNewmark.The

reportaimstoprovideapracticalreferencefortheChineselegaltranslationpracticeof

emotionalexpressioninlegaldocuments.

ThecasedealtwithinSTisheardbytheFirst-tierTribunal(HealthEducationand

SocialCare)oftheUnitedKingdominthefieldofmentalhealth.Itisconcernedwith

issuesofmentalhealthpatients,especially,thementalcapacitytoconsenttotheir

treatment.Furthermore,thetopicofpeoplewithmentalillnesshasdrawnalotof

attentionandspotlightinChina.Inaddition,therearealargenumberofappraisal

resourcesinSTtoshowattitudeandviewpointofthepartiesinvolved.Theseappraisal

resourcesgreatlyinfluencetheeffectivenessandusefulnessofcommunicationinthe

processingoflegalinformationandlinguisticrepresentation.Therefore,thereport

annotatesandcalculatesthedistributionofappraisalresourcesbytheUAMCorpus

Tool.Theresultsindicateadifferentialfrequencyofattitudinal,engagement,and
