ABSTRACT

Inthelastfewyears,therehasbeenrapiddevelopmentinlargelanguagemodels

representedbyChatGPT.Now,largelanguagemodelshavebecomearesearchhotspotin

thefieldofnaturallanguageprocessingincludingmachinetranslation,textgeneration,and

others.ThispaperoffersanexclusivelookintothepracticalutilizationofChatGPTin

translationpracticesamongtranslationmajors,drawinginsightsfromacomprehensive

surveyinvolvingover200domestictranslationstudents.Itexplorestheirexperiencesand

perspectiveswhileemployingChatGPTfortranslationpurposesandaddressesfourkey

inquiries:thecurrentstateofChatGPTutilizationamongtranslationstudents,its

performanceinpractice,userexperiences,andopinionsonitsdevelopmentandapplication

withinthetranslationdomain.Theanalysisshowsthatrespondentsexpressconcerns

regardingtheaccuracyofinformation,aswellasissuesofprivacyandsecuritywhen

utilizingChatGPTfortranslationtasks.However,ChatGPT,asasophisticatedlarge

languagemodel,demonstratescommendableperformanceinmachinetranslation,thus

heraldingnewpossibilitiesforinnovatingtranslationparadigms.Drawingfromthese

findings,theauthorproposesseveralimplicationspertinenttotranslationstudentsand

translationtechnologyeducation,aimedatfosteringunderstandingandfosteringthe

developmentofAI-basedlargelanguagemodelsinmachinetranslationapplications.
