Chapter3Chapter3EdwardTaylorBriefCommentTaylorwasoneoftheforemostpoetsincolonialBritishNorthAmerica,buthedidnotpublishanyofhisworksinhislifetime.Manuscriptsofhispoemswerefoundin1937.ThisdiscoverybroughtTaylortoimmediateprominenceinthecolonialliteraryhistory,andenrichedAmericanpoeticheritage.AcompleteeditionofTaylor’spoemsappearedin1960.Hispoetryhasbeencharacterizedas“Americanbaroque”aswellasmetaphysical.
