thepublic.ManyexcellentforeigndocumentarieshavebeenintroducedtoChina,but

onlyafewChinesedocumentarieshavebeenexportedoverseas.OutstandingChinese

documentariesdeservetobeseenbymorepeople.Thematerialforthisreportisthe

documentarydirectorChaiHongfang’sworkJoysinLife,whichtellsthestoryofthe

protagonistYangYajunasasmallcharacterinthelocalartssceneinQianzhou.For

thistranslationpractice,thesubtitlesofthedocumentaryareselectedasthecontent.

Consideringthecommongroundsofsubtitletranslationandinterpretation,the

translatorchoseinterpretivetheoryasatheoreticalguide,strivingtopresentthestory

ofthisordinaryindividual.

Whentranslatingthetext,thetranslatorcategorizedthemaintranslation

difficultiesofthistext,includingthetranslationofculture-relatedexpressions,

dialogueswithoutmeaning,dialogueswithimplicitmeaning,andcumbersome

sentences.Undertheguidanceoftheinterpretivetheory,thetranslatortriesto

understandthedifficultiesoftranslation,getridofthefettersoftheoriginaltext,and

takethecommunicativemeaningasthebasicunitoftranslation,toproducesubtitle

translationsthatconveytheexactmeaning.Finally,thispaperconcludestheguiding

significanceandlimitationsoftheinterpretivetheoryinthistranslationpractice.The

translatorhopesthatthisreportcanprovidesomereferenceforothertranslatorsand

individualsinterestedinsubtitletranslation.
